COVID-19 Blood Donor FAQs

If you have tested positive for COVID-19, you must be resolved of your symptoms for 10 days. If asymptomatic, you must wait 10 days from the date of your positive test result.

Yes! If you have received one of the FDA Approved (EUA) COVID-19 vaccines, there is no deferral time to donate blood (as long as you are feeling well!) You are NOT required to be vaccinated in order to donate blood.

If you have had a monoclonal antibody infusion, you must wait 3 months before donating.

No, The Blood Center is not testing for active COVID-19. If you suspect you have been exposed to COVID-19 or if you are experiencing any symptoms (including flu or allergy-like symptoms) we ask that you wait until symptoms have passed or until you have a negative COVID-19 test before you donate to ensure the safety of our staff and other donors.

Every day, as a part of our regular operations, our donor centers and mobile buses follow appropriate infection control standards put forth by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) which include:

• Sanitation of donor waiting rooms and donation chairs.
• Hospital grade disinfectant wipes and cleaning formulas
• Frequently changed single use medical gloves
• Various actions on the part of blood centers to implement social distancing and other safety protocols for donors and staff:
  • Hand sanitizer is provided in donation areas for donors and staff
  • Space chairs in waiting room, donation room, canteen, mobiles as much as possible
  • All donors are given their own single use glove to wear while using their squeeze ball

As of March 30, 2022:

• Masks are optional for all donors and staff, unless required by blood drive location or organizer.
